Open Day hailed as another success!

A huge thank you to all who supported the Open Day on Saturday 16th August, and helped to make this a very successful event. You were so generous with your produce donations that we struggled to find enough table space for it all!

A word of thanks must also be given to our external supporters - not least of which The Talbot, Newlands, for providing the catering, and to Ron Dadge Fruit & Veg and Tapsters, both of Pershore Market, for their generous raffle donations.

A great mix of young and old came to share our celebrations, with a number of young families passing through the gates. The competitions generated substantial interest, with all prizes finding new homes.

Following the event, a number of non-members of the Association raised concerns that they felt it inappropriate to hold a public open day as it might increase crime.

Whilst Pershore Allotment Association is sympathetic to those who have suffered from thefts and break-ins, the Association acknowledges these concerns but believes them to be unwarranted. Committee members were present at the event for the duration and, without exception, did not feel that the people who had attended the event could be described as what the Open Day's detractors referred to as 'undesirable'. For several months the allotment site has been the target of thefts and break-ins, and this trend has continued beyond the Open Day but without any significant increase or reduction in the number or type of incidents.
